A Guide to Automotive Photography - Part 7 - It's Who You Know

Making connections and building relationships are paramount for you to be able to achieve your ambitions. The best automotive photographers today have only reached their status because of the people they met who helped their career take off.

It is more likely for one to get the dream photoshoot because they know somebody who knows somebody, not because of their talent. I can guarantee that you’ve seen someone’s images from a photoshoot with an incredible vehicle and wonder how they got to that opportunity when their pictures aren’t that exceptional.

Two things. Firstly… don’t think like that - no comparison, only inspiration - I covered that in an earlier lesson. Secondly, this shows you the importance of making connections. You will be successful if you strive to get to know people.

Imagine a tree. This tree is made up of people/clients an automotive photographer can reach simply by knowing people. The more people one knows, the bigger the tree gets, and the more clients one can potentially “branch out” to. The photographer with the largest tree has the best chance to be given opportunities.
